Although he appeared to be in good health until yesterday evening, he was discovered lifeless at his residence at approximately 11:00 p.m., according to reports.

Who was Dr Mohan Nair?

Dr Mohan Nair was a well-known Indian cardiologist and interventional electrophysiologist. He has been in the news because he passed away recently.

He received his medical education, including his MBBS, MD, and DM, from Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi. Additionally, he completed a fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at the University Hospital of Rouen, France. While his DOB isn’t known, he was aged between 55-65 years.

His career

Dr Mohan Nair’s extensive work experience in interventional cardiology spans over 5000 coronary angioplasty procedures and 300 balloon mitral valvuloplasties. He is also renowned for his expertise in electrophysiology, having performed nearly 3500 diagnostic EP procedures and 2500 radiofrequency catheter ablations.

His exceptional skills and knowledge have ranked him among the top 10 interventional cardiologists in India and earned him a reputation as one of the leading electrophysiologists in South Asia.

Dr Mohan Nair also contributed to various research efforts resulting in more than 100 publications and paper presentations at both the national and international levels.

Additionally, he was instrumental in the establishment of EP programs at several hospitals and institutes in India, China, and Sri Lanka, including Apollo Hospitals Chennai, Nizam’s Institute in Hyderabad, JIPMER Pondicherry, Sri Chitra Institute in Trivandrum, and many others.

In the previous five years, he had served on the faculty of nearly all significant national and international EP meetings. Additionally, he served as an instructor for live medical education programs on angioplasty and electrophysiology in China, France, and Sri Lanka.

He was a pioneer in the use of pacemakers and defibrillators in India. At the time of his death, he was the director and head of cardiology at the Asian Institute of Medical Sciences.
