During the sentencing hearing, around 10 a.m., Judge Clifton Newman announced the two-term sentence in the courtroom. Newman also said that a portrait of Murdaugh’s grandfather had to be taken down from the courthouse to make sure the trial was fair.
Alex Murdaugh Found Guilty of Murder and Weapon Charges
Along with the murder charges, Alex Murdaugh was also charged with two counts of having a weapon during a violent crime. Even though he was found guilty, Murdaugh insisted he was innocent. He told the court, “I’m innocent. I would never hurt my wife, Maggie, and I would never hurt my son Paw Paw.”
