Higgins won the first frame of the final with a break of 62, but Trump tied it up with a run of 100, his 899th century of his career. However, Higgins took back control with a break of 78 and clinched the tense fourth frame to claim his first championship since taking first place in the same competition a year earlier. Previously, in a thrilling semifinal match, Kyren Wilson led Higgins 2-0 with breaks of 137 & 85, but the four-time World Champion came back to win the match 3-2 with breaks of 86, 61, & 66. During the other semi-final tie, Trump defeated Neil Robertson with ease, 3-0.
After winning the competition a second time in a row, Higgins earned a spot in the November 2023 Champion of Champions. From November 13 to November 19, the University of Bolton Stadium will host the 2023 Champion of Champions.
