The news about the deal came on February 26, reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, who stated that the Padres inked Manny Machado to a massive contract extension, for the next decade plus.

Machado out for more money

Machado is somewhat the face of the Padres revolution, who originally signed a 10-year, $300 million contract back in 2019. However, that wasn’t enough for the third baseman as he recently announced that he would opt out of that deal in following the season to look for another lengthy contract. As things have turned out, it looks like Machado didn’t have to wait for too long to get the money he wanted.

Manny Machado contract details

Manny Machado signed an 11-year, $350 million contract extension on February 26, to stay with the Padres. According to average estimates he will earn roughly $31.8 million per season. This time, the contract does not features any opt outs, and also includes a full no-trade clause.

It is the fourth-largest deal in MLB history so far, behind Mike Trout (12 years, $426 million), Mookie Betts (12 years, $365 million), and Aaron Judge (nine years, $360 million). The new deal will technically pay him through his age 40 season, or basically through the end of his career.

Machado, who is currently 30-years-old, initially planned to opt out of his 10-year, $300 million contract following the 2023 season. He was looking to set up for another big-money deal. His current net worth is at $50 million.
