The Mayakoba event was the first event of the 14 events under the LIV Golf League 2023 season.
2023 LIV Golf Mayakoba format
The 2023 LIV Golf Mayakoba had a player field of 48 players. Prominent golfers like Cameron Smith, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and more played in the event.
All the players will compete against each other for a massive $25 million prize purse. The winner of the event won a total prize money of around $4,000,000, which is the standard 20 percent payout from the purse.
Moreover, unlike its PGA Tour rivals, the LIV event did not feature a cut after 36 holes. In fact, the competition will reward all the players who finish three rounds of the event.
Each of the golfers will receive parts of the $20 million individual portion of the prize pool. Meanwhile, the top three teams out of the 12-team format will split the remaining $5 million amongst themselves. The winning team will get $3 million, while the second ranked team will win $1.5 million. The third ranked team will receive half a million USD.
No World Golf Ranking points
Notably, the LIV Golf competition will not award players with Official World Golf Ranking points. Although this could however, change in the near future.
For now, the points that individual players will only add up to the bonus system of the league which will run throughout the season. The individual winner and team winner of the league at will get decided at the team championship, which will be held in Saudi Arabia later this year in November.
