2023 WR Chess Masters day-6 schedule, date, venue, players, format, & tournament events
In order to take a one-point lead at the WR Chess Masters in Düsseldorf, Levon Aronian recorded his third victory of the tournament. With white pieces, Aronian defeated Anish Giri, snapping his opponent’s 28-game winning streak. In another fifth-round match, Vincent Keymer defeated Nodirbek Abdusattorov with white, leaving five players in a tie for sixth through tenth place. Other than these two matches, every game of Tuesday ended in a draw.
Despite his best attempts to defeat Gukesh, potential world champion Ian Nepomniachtchi settled for a draw in round 5 at Düsseldorf. Meanwhile, Vincent Keymer earned his first victory of the competition with a stunning victory over Nodirbek Abdusattorov. After results of Tuesday, Levon Aronian is sitting at the top of the table with four points from five rounds, while Wesley So and Gukesh are his closest rival with three points from five games.
On Wednesday, leader Aronian will clash against second-placed So in a blockbuster clash, which might prove pivotal in determining the winner. Meanwhile, Indian prodigy Gukesh will attempt to win against Abdusattorov in his attempts of climbing the standings.
WR Chess Masters 2023 prize money pool & standings
During the 2023 WR Chess Masters, prizes totaling 130,000 euros will be given out, including 40,000 for the winner. The remaining 90,000 euros will be divided among the participants based on their results. Levon Aronian now holds a one-point advantage over his closest rival in the race for this prestigious title.
