During the highlight clash of Monday, in-form Robert Milkins survived decisive frame thriller to defeat Tom Ford by score of 6-5 and qualify for the quarterfinal, where he is scheduled to face-off against Ali Carter. In another match, Carter qualified for the quarterfinal by defeating 2019 World Champion Judd Trump 6-5. Carter left Trump needing two snookers twice in the game’s exciting final frame this evening. However, Carter eventually crossed the finish line by placing a challenging blue to the right middle.
Shaun Murphy defeated Mark Selby 6-3 in their first-round match at the Duelbits Players Championship in Wolverhampton, snapping a four-game losing streak. The opening three frames of the afternoon were won by nine-time ranking event champion Murphy thanks to breaks of 72 and 75. Four-time World Champion Selby then nicked the fourth frame on the black to fall down 3-1 at the halfway point of the session. When the game resumed, Murphy scored a break of 92 to make it 4-1. The 40-year-old was then just one away from winning when he made it 5-1. Selby put forth his customary tenacity and resolve to win the seventh and eighth frames, but Murphy was unstoppable and prevailed 6-3.
