Since the inaugural Merida Open is scheduled for this week, Mexico will play host to a brand-new competition. 20 February to 26 February 2023 will see the WTA 250 competition.
The draw’s top seed, Magda Linette, is in the spotlight. At the United Cup, where she began the season, she performed admirably, winning three of her singles matches before falling to Madison Keys in the semifinals.
After leaving Hobart International early, Linette advanced to her first Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open.

Sloane Stephens, the second seed, hasn’t yet managed to win a match this year. The American has typically done well in Mexico, where she has already won a few tournaments. She will be eager to claim her first victory of the year at the Merida Open.
Third, in the tournament’s seeding is Zhu Lin. At the Hua Hin Championships, the Chinese player recently won her first career singles title.
Fourth-seeded Katerina Siniakova will be going for her first singles championship of the year.
Alycia Parks successfully won her first singles title a few weeks ago. To win the Lyon Open, the 22-year-old overcame World No. 5 Caroline Garcia, and she’ll be hoping to do the same here.
Mexico has swiftly established a reputation as a top-notch host because players adore the atmosphere there. The Merida Open’s inaugural season is going to be entertaining.
How much prize money and WTA points will the players grab in the 2023 Merida Open?
Several elite players have travelled to the biggest city in southeast Mexico to fight for a piece of the $259,303 in total prize money since Mexico will also host the Monterrey Open a week later.
The winner in Merida will receive 280 ranking points and a check for $34,228, the usual prize money for all WTA 250 competitions this year. $20,226 will go to the runners-up.
The runners-up at the tournament will grab 180 WTA points, semifinals will be awarded 110, 60 for quarterfinals, 30 for reaching the second round and 1 point for the first round.
