The aesthetically appealing American football league is back for another season, and it’s better than ever thanks to the XFL. Football enthusiasts across the nation are eagerly anticipating the 2023 XFL season. Only 8 teams will compete in the 2023 season, and most of them are found in large cities. For example, the Seattle Sea Dragons and the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL both call Seattle home.
The league has experienced ups and downs, but maybe this time it will last longer than the last. Compared to its more well-known rival, the NFL, the XFL boasts a variety of distinctive traits. Despite high hopes, the attempt to relaunch the XFL in 2020 did not go smoothly; Covid got in the way and bankrupted investors. But now they are back.

What does the term “XFL” mean?
Although the X was intended to represent Xtreme or Extreme, the initial concept (a McMahon notion from 2001) was that the X stands for nothing, while the other two letters, F and L, subtly meant for “Football League.”
The XFL proprietors at the time did not want the X to stand for anything in particular because another league named the Extreme Football League was already in existence when the XFL was founded in 2001. If the NFL stood for the “No Fun League,” McMahon famously remarked, “then the XFL will stand for the “Extra Fun League.”
Sports Illustrated in 2019 added another significant observation about the significance of the X: “Even if only indirectly, the F and the L serve to denote a football league. X, however, is a variable. Anything could be meaning.”
Game length of the XFL
The 35-second play clock used by the XFL starts after the previous play. Following incomplete passes and out-of-bounds plays before the two-minute warning of either half, the clock begins. After a two-minute halftime warning, the clock pauses after the first downs.
The first and second halves are separated by ten minutes once the timer stops. Three timeouts are allotted to each team per half. After a regular game, overtime is played if there is a tie between the two teams. Each side gets three chances to score during overtime, which is comprised of alternating efforts from their opponent’s five-yard line. Each attempt is worth two points when successful. If it doesn’t succeed, a shootout is used to determine the winner.
