A 12-year-old boy from New Jersey named Elijah Jordan Brown-Garcia died on Friday, February 17, after passing out during a no-contact football practice, know his cause of death
The tragedy has shocked and saddened the people in the area, and many of them have expressed their sorrow and condolences. Elijah Jordan went to KIPP Rise and was in the sixth grade.
He played baseball for the Essex County Predators. People said he was a friendly and loving young boy, and his smile and love of football and dancing made him stand out. He liked going to school and being with his family and friends.

Reports say that Elijah passed out during a workout, and that the coaches there didn’t know how to do CPR. His brother told their parents, who were not there, what was going on by calling them. When they got there, they saw that no ambulance had been called yet, so they had to wait for a long time.

Raven Brown, Elijah Jordan’s mother, fought hard for her son’s life, but he did not make it. She thought back to the first time she talked about what happened. Her younger son had called her to tell her that Elijah had passed out. She asked him what the coaches were doing, and he told her that they were pouring water on him and fanning him. Then Raven gathered her kids and went to the scene.

Several people, including Raven, asked for school paramedics to be sent to the scene. But it took a while for an ambulance to arrive. Raven tried to bring her son back to life. She said, “I grabbed him, and I just kept saying, ‘Elijah, get up,’ but I knew he was gone.” She went on to say, “He was so happy to be there. He didn’t know that it was going to be his last day.”
When Elijah Jordan died, people from all over the area and beyond sent their condolences. Elijah’s school, KIPP Rise, and the hospital where he was taken both released formal statements about how much they would miss him. His football team also remembered him on Instagram with the words, “Our Hearts are crushed and our condolences scream out to the family of our very own Elijah E2 Brown. We love You.”
A GoFundMe page was also set up to help Elijah’s family cover the costs of his funeral. As I was writing this, the page had raised more than $33,000.
