As the English players took the knee prior to their FIFA World Cup qualifier in Poland and boos reverberated across the stadium, the English knew they were in for a long night.

It was an extremely hostile and ominous atmosphere for the visitors with the Polish crowd leaving no stone unturned to make its feelings blatantly clear. From jeering the England side to raucously singing in support of their own team, the supporters paid testament to what home advantage truly means.

Kamil Glik And Harry Maguire Involved In Skirmish In Poland vs England

Spurred by the backing of his countrymen, Poland’s Kamil Glik was in a particularly feisty mood on the day. He was caught going in strongly into the English players on a string of occasions but a tackle on Jack Grealish managing to particularly catch the eye as Glik went unpunished for it.

As the England side grew increasingly irate with Glik, it was only a matter of time before someone was going to confront him. And it was centreback Harry Maguire who decided to square up to the Polish defender as a full blown melee erupted at the stroke of halftime.

Maguire was seen having a go at Glik who was more than willing to oblige as England’s captain Harry Kane and a string of other players intervened in a bid to defuse the situation. Maguire was meanwhile shown a yellow card by German referee Daniel Siebert for his involvement in the scuffle.

The tie meanwhile ended level at 1-1 with both the side’s scoring on the other side of the first half.
