KL Rahul Fined Match Fees For Showing Dissent At The Umpire’s Decision During The England vs India 4th Test

KL Rahul has been fined for breaching the ICC’s code of conduct as he showed dissent at the umpire’s decision during the England vs India 4th test match

KL Rahul has been dished out a 15% fine of his match fees after lashing out at the umpire on day 3 of the ongoing 4th test match between England and India.

The incident which occurred during the 34th over of India’s second innings saw the Indian opener irked after he was given out by the umpire. Rahul who had failed in his DRS review with replays showing a clear nick had shown dissent at the umpire with his actions being a violation of Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record, the first point he’s accrued in a 24 month period after breaching Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. According to ICC rules, if a player reached 4 or more points in the 24 month window, they are then converted into suspensions with two suspension points resulting in a ban from one test match or two ODIs or T20s, whichever come first.

Umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf, third umpire Michael Gough and fourth official Mike Burns had levelled the charges of dissent against KL Rahul, ones the opener had pleaded guilty to. He also accepted the sanction handed out by Chris Broad, member of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, proceeding which no formal hearing was deemed necessary into the matter with proceedings into the case being closed.
