Hyderabad FC defeated Kerala Blasters in the ISL 2021–22 championship match to bring the eighth season of the league to a close.
While KBFC had made it to the final for the third time, Hyderabad was competing for the first time in the ISL championship game.

The final saw an intriguing 1-1 draw between the two teams before going to penalties, which Hyderabad won 3-1.
With Hyderabad now included on the list of ISL champions, there are now five clubs that have won the competition.

Defending champions Hyderabad FC: As it happened
Since making their ISL debut in 2019, Hyderabad FC has advanced steadily, going from a last-place showing in their first game to capturing the championship in 2022.
The Nizams’ ability to score goals in the title-winning season set them apart from the other teams.
It was a brilliant move by manager Manolo Marquez to acquire Bartholomew Ogbeche from Kerala Blasters. By scoring 18 goals in 20 games, the Nigerian won the Golden Boot title.
In the league phase, Hyderabad FC scored the most goals with 43 goals, finishing second in the standings and earning a spot in their first playoffs.
During the knockout rounds, HFC overcame an early deficit to defeat ATK Mohun Bagan 3-1 in the first leg and maintained their advantage in the second to go to the final with a 3-2 aggregate victory.
After regulation time and extra time failed to separate the two clubs in the finals, Kerala Blasters and Hyderabad FC decided to end the game on penalties.
Despite Rahul KP giving Kerala the lead, Hyderabad’s Sahil Tavora tied the score to force a shootout.
Laxmikant Kattimani, the goalkeeper, saved three penalties in the decisive game, helping Hyderabad win their first ISL championship.
The Hero ISL Champions will be offered INR 6 Crore (previously INR 8 Cr), while the runners-up will get INR 3 Crore (previously INR 4 Cr). The other two semi-finalists will receive INR 1.5 Crore each.
- As table toppers, the club is guaranteed INR 3.5 Crore
- As incentive, if the club goes on to win the ISL Championship, they would stand to gain a total windfall of INR 9.5 Crore
- If finished as runners-up in the ISL final, the club would earn total of INR 6.5 Crore
- In case the table topper finishes 3rd or 4th in the knock out competition, the club would earn minimum of INR 5 Crore.
The total prize money pool for ISL 2022-23 is INR 15.5 Crore.
- Best Pitch Award and a cash prize of $13,500 ( approximately ₹10 lakh)
- Most goals will be awarded the Golden Boot and a cash prize of $4,500 (approximately ₹3 lakhs)
- The Goalkeeper will win the Golden Glove award and a cash prize of $4,500 (approximately ₹3 lakhs)
- The best individual stats will win the Hero of the League Award and a cash prize of $6,800 (approximately ₹5 lakhs)
- The best young Indian player is awarded the Emerging Player of the League and a cash prize of $3,400 (approximately ₹2.5 lakhs)
- The best assist or creative pass of the season wins the Winning Pass of the League and a cash prize of $1,380 (approximately ₹1 lakh)
- The Fittest Player of the League award and cash prize of $3,400 ( approximately ₹2.5 lakhs)
