49-year-old Jesse Marsch, got sacked from Leeds following a 1-0 loss at Nottingham Forest, which made it the club’s seven consecutive game without a win.
Leeds United considering Carlos Corberan
Leeds United are currently considering to hire the services of Spaniard 39-year-old Cole Corberan. Notably, Corberan previously coached at Elland Road for three years from 2017-2020. Corberan proved vital for the Championship Baggies including steering the club into the play-offs.
Under his new job at Albion, he has managed to win 11 of his 16 games in charge. However, at the moment, Albion are facing currently funding problems and it won’t be surprising to see Corberan knows about Andrea Radrizzani.
Since December 22 2016, he has been married to wife Vanesa Mansilla.
Corberan was forced to play a 3-5-2 formation at Huddersfield, which proved capable of defending but has offered little in terms of attack from open play so far. Town looked genuinely effective in attack against Everton in the Carabao Cup and in their great 4-0 win over Reading, despite a catastrophic attempt with 4-2-3-1 against Fulham.
Carlos has signed a contract extension at West Brom but his salary at the club isn’t known.
But the club have tonight announced he has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract extension, signalling he is not going to Leeds United.
Leeds United sack Jesse Marsch and team
Besides sacking Jesse Marsch, Leeds’ Italian owner also sacked coaches Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack and Pierre Barrieu. Following the move, the club released a statement that read:
We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future.
Despite giving his best, Jesse got sacked, and will now most probably struggle to find new work in the EPL. Marsch took of Leeds for 343 days after he was appointed last February to save the Whites from relegation.
However, under his leadership, the club have failed to make any significant progress since. Their most recent 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Sunday proved to be the trigger for Jesse’s termination.
Leeds are currently in 17th place in the Premier League with only 18 points from 20 matches. They are only above the relegation zone on goal difference. Last season the club was in 15th place with 20 points under Marcelo Bielsa, after 20 games.
Failed signings
During Jesse’s time with Leeds United, the club gave him a strong backing financially. Leeds spent around £130 million on new signings like Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Tyler Adams and Max Wober.
The club even broke their previous transfer record in January while purchasing Georginio Rutter from Hoffenheim for £36m. Leeds also signed American footballer Weston McKennie on loan from Juventus last month with an option to buy.
Both the players came off the bench at the City Ground but failed to impress following, which Marsch admitted post-match:
The guys off the bench were not able to bring enough into the match. It is difficult to have the right words for the team on exactly what is necessary.”
Marsch has managed to win only four games with Leeds out of their 20 league matches this season. He lost 10 games and drew 6 and currently has a record of only eight Premier League match wins. Following the team’s loss against Forest, he stated that he would take “full responsibility”.
Leeds United are however, still alive in the FA Cup. Moreover, some of Marsch’s signings like 19-year-old wideman Wilfried Gnonto, could still find success at the club manages if they avoid relegation.
