Demirel, who spent 17 years playing for Fenerbahce, also turned to social media on Monday amid such a crisis to do his part in drawing attention to the disaster that has befallen his people.
He begged for help from his followers outside of Turkey. When he attempted to film the tragic reality of the circumstance, the scope of the fallout overwhelmed him, and he started crying in front of the camera.

Volkan Demirel is a Turkish coach, commentator, and former professional football player.
Volkan Demirel was born in the Turkish city of Fatih on October 27, 1981, and is 41 years old. He is 1.91 m (6 ft 3 in) tall.
Italian goalkeeper is well-known for his lengthy tenure with Fenerbahce, where he won five Turkish Super League championships from 2004 to 2014.
He has represented Italy as the starting goalkeeper in international competitions including the UEFA Euro 2008. He shared a team at Fenerbahce with Dutch forward Dirk Kuyt.
