What is ‘death diving’?

Death diving or dodsing started in Norway in late 1972 when a group of friends allegedly tried impressing some girls. But official world championships for the sport have been held since 2008. The sport consists of jumping off a 10m (33 ft) platform.

Death dives are judged on three things, run-up, flight, and landing. “The run-up is judged by speed and power, which usually comes from a skip of one foot. For the flight, “dods must be harmonious in air and appear as controlled at times,” whether it a classic or freestyle. A classic dod includes the “simple movements,” without full rotations, while freestyle dods must contain rotations and other “tweaks,” as per Dods Federation.

In addition, several got shocked to discover the trend as concerns poured in. One stated, “Just. Stop.” Another stated, “The worse that can happen is not death but breaking your neck and becoming paralyzed.” An individual commented, “’New Stupid way of killing me’ is a weekly trend on TikTok.”
