Ricky Kej’s family and education
Kej is half Punjabi and Marwari by birth. Ricky Kej shifted to Bangalore, India when he was just eight years old. He finished his schooling at Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, Bangalore and he then graduated from Oxford Dental College based in Bangalore. He was born to Pammi Kej and Gyan Kej. Ricky is married to Varsha Kej.

Ricky Kej career
Ricky Kej began his career as a keyboardist for a Bengaluru-based progressive rock band named Angel Dust. After two years with the band, he further became a full-time composer and decided to set up his own studio named Revolution in 2003. He then went on to make music for more than 3,000 ad jingles and for Kannada films.
Kej’s music is mainly based on Hindustani classical music and a bit of Carnatic music. He has cited Pakistani qawwal Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and British vocalist Peter Gabriel as his inspirations. Kej is a self-taught musician but he studied classical music at the age of 24 years of age to overcome what he observed as a handicap at the time.
Kej released over 17 studio albums, most of which were physically released in the US but not in his home country India. Kej produced a benefit album named 2 Unite All, with Peter Gabriel. This album was aimed at urgent humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in Gaza.
On the 30th of November in 2015, his album named Shanti Samsara was launched at COP 21, 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference which was also attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
