The U.S. Coast Guard reported on Tuesday that an age 27-year-old Edgar Garay from Puerto Rico had died after falling down a cliff

The precipice was 70 feet high. Edgar Garay, a visitor from Indiana, took a day trip to the beach. The Coast Guard said that Garay had been missing since around 5:30 p.m. local time on Sunday at the incident site, which was in the vicinity of a lighthouse.

An emergency dispatcher notified the Coast Guard over an hour later that Edgar Garay may have been lost. Later responding Coast Guardsmen heard from a witness who observed Garay stumbling toward the precipice.

The US Shore Guard reports that a 27-year-old Edgar Garay was on a day trip to the southwestern coast when he was last spotted near the cliff edge at 5:37 p.m. At approximately 6:50 p.m., a 911 dispatcher notified watch standers in Coast Guard Sector San Juan of the situation.

Over the course of the night and the next day, officials from the Coast Guard, the Puerto Rico Joint Forces, the Puerto Rico Emergency Bureau, and the Puerto Rico Emergency Medical Services Corps Bureau conducted a search.

On a Monday afternoon, his body was discovered. The commander of the Coast Guard’s San Juan sector, Captain José E. Dáz, expressed his “heartfelt condolences” to Garay’s family and wished them “strength during this most difficult time.”

Who was Edgar Garay?

While in Puerto Rico, Edgar Garay documented his travels on his TikTok account (@chayanchewy). He posted a video showing himself trekking in Rio de Saldana just days before he passed away. Other than this not much is know about him.

Carlos Garay, Garay’s brother, lamented his untimely death on Facebook, writing, “he was truly taken from us too soon.”

Amarilys Pagan, Garay’s mother, posted a statement on Facebook with a link to a GoFundMe page, saying in Spanish that this is the worst thing that has ever happened to her as a parent, and the community rallied around her.
