Deepfakes video of Pokimane and Maya Higa among other female creators have surfaced online after Twitch streamer Atrioc got exposed on clip for having a paid access of a site which features fellow streamersย
A tab of a site where malicious NSFW videos, which got created and also distributed without the consent of those whose identities were used was spotted on Atriocโs screen during his live-stream. Atroic apologized for deepfake
In the video posted on the streaming platform Twitch, Atrioc made an apology and has explained that he had recently been reading a lot into the AI and deepfake technology, such as the AI art.
โI was working on a regular website, and there was an ad on each and every videoโฆ and when I click it, then Iโm in rabbit hole, I got morbidly curious and then I clicked something. Itโs gross and Iโm sorry. Itโs so embarrassing. Tearfully claimed this was not a pattern of the behavior and deemed this type of wrong content.โ he stated
Atrioc has claimed that he had only looked at the video once and he could show receipt of proving that he has purchased access on site in same day when that clip was made.The malicious videos of female streamers was allegedly created by a user named Bavfakes, who specializes in the deepfakes involving female streamers.
What is a deepfake?
Deepfake technology has infiltrating mainstream culture at alarming rate. It is referred as using advanced software which is used to manipulate audio and the video recordings to create a piece of the content which looks real, but it is not. Using tech like convincing filters a video can be made to appear of a particular person and in the video, you can show the person doing a particular thing of your choice as well.ย But in reality, the acts and the person are fake.
Pokimane is a well-known creator with more than 9 million Twitch followers. Apart from being a content creator, she is a well-known game as well. Both Pokimane and Maya have not commented anything yet.
