Who’s Soniya Mendhiya
For those who are unfamiliar with Soniya Mendhiya, let us tell you, the cricketer was born in Rohtak, Haryana on March 20, 2004.
Soniya hails from Brahmanwas, which is a small village in Rohtak district. Two girls from Rohtak played for the Indian team who lifted the World Cup trophy.
The teenager who’s right hand batter and off-spinner, had scored 260 runs while taking 8 wickets in the U19 One Day Trophy.
If we speak about her U-19 T20 Trophy stats, the cricketer had scored a total of 187 runs along with 8 wickets.
During the U19 Challenger trophy, Soniya has scored 92 runs with 5 wickets whereas in Quadrangular series she has scored a total 67 runs and 4 wickets.
In the New Zealand Development tour, the cricketer scored a total of 65 runs with 2 wickets. After witnessing her consistent good performance she was selected for u-19 women’s squads.
Soniya comes from a Dalit family and had 3 more siblings, 2 sisters and one brother. Her father, Rajpal Mendhiya, passed away when the cricketer was just 4 years old.
After which her mother, who’s illiterate, took care of the family. She started working at Anganwadi as a helper on a monthly salary of Rs. 2,500.
It has been 8 years since her mother is working at the place but still her salary is Rs. 5,500.
In an earlier media conversation Soniya’s mother revealed that she had started playing cricket when she 13.
She learned the basics of cricket at Shri Ram Academy in Jhajjar Road, Rohtak.
