Anthony Taylor managed to once again find himself embroiled in controversy as he gave Reece James a questionable red card during Liverpool vs Chelsea

As Kai Havertz gave Chelsea the lead against Liverpool at Anfield, the visiting side were able to see how play as they aspired. And despite Liverpool coming out with hammer and tongs in a bid to restore parity, the Londoners did extremely well to do the dirty work at the back.

Irked by the manner in which Chelsea refused Liverpool to find the leveler, Anthony Taylor decided to take matters into his own hands. Harbouring an innate hate against Chelsea, Taylor decided to once again indulge in his shenanigans as he sent Reece James off.

As James tried to clear the ball off the goal-line, the ball went onto connect with his arm. Whilst it was a clear handball given the area it had made connection with on Reece James’ body, the decision to give a red card was an extremely harsh one, one taken after a lengthy VAR check.

Liverpool were subsequently rewarded a penalty as well in the aftermath of widespread protests by the Chelsea players, ones which saw goal-keeper Edouard Mendy receive a yellow card. And Salah had little qualms in converting it as Liverpool went into the break with scores level on the day.

Down to 10 men, Chelsea needed to show immense grit and guile to keep a Liverpool side out for blood at bay. And while it was arduous task, Mendy managed to keep the visitors in the outing come the second half with a raft of saves as Liverpool peppered his goal with shots.
