Around 1 pm, 60-year-old Das was traveling to the Jharsuguda district to attend a function when he was shot in the chest in Brajrajnagar town. His assassination sent shockwaves across the whole country as he was shot by a police officer named Gopal Krushna Das.
Soon after the incident happened, he was taken into custody and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik also directed Crime Branch to investigate the case carefully. Who is Gopal Krushna Das?
Gopal Krushna Das is an Indian police officer from the state of Odisha. He has been in the news because he recently shot Odisha state minister Naba Das in broad daylight.
He is from Berhampur, Odisha. He is married and his wife’s name is Jayanti Das. The couple also has a daughter whose name is not known.
His career
Gopal Krushna Das began his work as a policeman in Berhampur. Later, he received a promotion to ASI and was assigned to Jharsuguda, where he worked for more than 12 years. He is now assigned to oversee the Gandhi Square outpost in Brajarajnagar.
Why did Gopal Krushna Das kill Minister Naba Das?
It is unknown why he killed Naba Das, although according to accounts, Das had high blood pressure and a mental disorder.
Dr. Chandra Sekhar Tripathy, the director of the department (HOD) of Psychiatry at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, claims that Das has bipolar disorder. He stated that Das initially came to his clinic about eight to ten years ago and that at the time, he was being treated for a condition known as impulsive anger.
His wife also disclosed that he had been on medication for the last 8 years and had been taking medicines consistently.
