Why Did Leander Paes And Mahesh Bhupathi Break Up Despite Tasting Consummate Success Together

The 1990s was the prime time for Paes and Bhupathi as they became the first pair to reach the finals of all Grand Slams in a year, winning the French Open and Wimbledon as top seeds. They won 23 ATP titles and 3 Grand Slams and scaled to the World Number 1 ranking. The trouble began when Bhupathi underwent a shoulder surgery toward the end of 1999 and his partner obviously, did not take this development well. They split up for the first time in 2000.

Furthermore, Paes was also quite troubled when Mahesh hired Enrico Piperno as his personal coach. According to Paes, Piperno had badmouthed him to Mahesh, his sponsors and his friends, created a lack of trust in their friendship. This, he said in 2000, eventually got the better of them.

Gossip aside, no one really knew what happened between the two. But with ZEE5’s Break Point coming soon, fans will finally get some answers.
