2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup Germany vs Belgium final schedule, results, semi-final score, road to final, & other details
Although Germany dominated the first-half with concentrated offensive play, Australia’s clinical finish and resilient defense allowed the top-seeded team to secure 2-0 lead. Germany continued to display similar aggressive play in the second-half and finally it paid-off as Peillat bagged the first goal for Germany that reduced the deficit. With minutes left on the clock, the match seemed to be headed for shootout after Peillat made it 2-2 for Germany but, defensive blunder from Australia allowed Germany to convert a dangerous counterattack and win the match by score of 3-2 with only six seconds left in the regular time.
In the other semi-final, Netherlands clashed against Belgium with the objective of avenging their loss in the 2018 World Cup final and started in a befitting manner as they secured an early lead. However, Belgium bagged the equalizer just before the half-time thanks to a penalty corner. Fans were pretty hyped after the third quarter saw Belgium equalize the score once more after Netherlands took 2-1 lead. Ultimately, the fourth quarter ended goalless as the match went to penalty shootout similar to last edition’s final between the two teams.
During the shootout, Belgian keeper Vincent Vanasch performed at his peak and forced the Dutch players to miss three of five attempts, which saw the match culminate with 3-2 shootout win in favor of the reigning world champions. Following these results, it is confirmed that former champion Germany will face-off against the reigning champion Belgium on Sunday with the title at stake.
