The 34-year-old Bhavina Hasmukhbhai Patel is the first ever Indian to enter the final of a table tennis event in the Paralympics. She defeated world no. 3 Chinese Miao Zhang 3-2 in a class 4 semifinal on Saturday, 28th August, 2021. The showdown lasted only for thirty-four minutes. Bhavina Patel will face China’s Zhou Ying in the women’s table tennis finals on Sunday, 29th August, 2021 (7.15am IST). Ying is the world number one and a 5-time Paralympics gold-medalist and 6-time World Championship medalist. She won these gold medals at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Paralympics, which also include 14 Asian Championship medals and 5 Asian Games gold medals.
While Bhavina previously lost to Zhou 0-3 in the opening match of Group A, she will be looking forward to come back stronger and more confident in this game. The odds may not be in her favor but we predict that Bhavina will be able to pull through in the end.

Entering her maiden Paralympics, Bhavina Patel wasn’t a bright prospect for the medal. While she lost the first two games, she came back hard in the next two and claimed them to take a 2-1 lead. Though Zhang fired back in the third game, Patel won the decider after taking a time-out.
Patel reached the rank of world number two when she won a silver medal in PTT Thailand Table Tennis Championship in 2011 and then another one in 2013 at the Asian Para table tennis championships in Beijing.
