Both players found it difficult to settle into this afternoon’s play following a cagey opening. The first four frames were eventually split, and they entered the mid-session break tied at 2-2. When the game started up again, Allen quickly gained control of the situation and completed a clean sweep of the four sets to finish ahead at 6-2 thanks to breaks of 88, 63, & 77.

Trump had the opening chance in the 12th but just missed a long red. Allen responded to that in the most severe way conceivable, launching a magnificent 141 to beat Trump’s biggest break total and take an 8-4 lead into the mid-session break. Trump quickly re-entered the match after it resumed, producing breaks of 51 and 87 his route to winning the following three sets and closing the gap to 8-7.

In the 16th frame, Trump emerged victorious and restored parity at 8-8 but, Allen responded immediately to win the 17th frame for making it 9-8 in his favor. However, Trump stood his ground to win the 18th frame and force a decider thanks to break of 76. Ultimately, Allen won the decisive frame to clinch the World Grand Prix title alongside ยฃ100,000 prize money.
