On January 14, 2022, Miss Universe 2022 broadcast its 71st winner live from New Orleans on the Roku Channel. American R’Bonney Gabriel won the competition. Amanda Dudemal of Venezuela finished in second place, while Andrena Martnez of the Dominican Republic was named the second runner-up.

Originally planning to take part in the previous edition, Andrena was prevented from doing so because of a positive COVID-19 test. A week before the competition, she was forced to withdraw her entry, and Debbie Aflalo took her place as the Dominican Republic’s representative.

Who is Andreina Martinez?
Andreina Martinez is a popular Dominican model and beauty pageant contestant. She has been in the news because she became the second runner-up in the Miss Universe 2022 competition.
Her full name is Andreína Martínez Founier-Rosado. She was born on September 22, 1997, in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. She was raised in New York City, United States.
She did her schooling at Bronx Bridges High School, where she played softball. She later attended City College of New York, the University of New York, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Latin American studies.

Her career
Andreina Martinez served as a legislative intern in 2017 in Senator Jose Serrano’s district office in New York. She also worked as a health educator for Peer Health Exchange and a peer mentor for CCNY’s SEEK Program. She worked as a legislative intern in 2018 at the Washington, DC, office of Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand.
At the New York City Council, she also served as an intern for the legislative budget. She received her mental health first aid certification from the National Council for Behavioral Health in December 2018. In August 2020, she was hired as the Women’s Equality Center’s operations coordinator.
Later, Andreina Martinez made the switch to pageantry when she competed as Miss Dominican Republic 2021 on November 7, 2021, at the Salón de Eventos Sambil in Santo Domingo, representing the Dominican Community in the United States.
She was supposed to compete in Miss Universe 2021, but first runner-up Debbie Aflalo replaced her after testing positive for COVID-19 before the event.
Now, she is the second runner-up in the Miss Universe 2022 competition.
