The event at which Amit Khatri from India bagged a silver medal recently was the World U-20 Athletics Championship. Amit Khatri started his winning strike by winning a bronze medal a few days back in the relay category, now he has bagged a silver medal. Amit managed to finish his 10 km long run in a time span of 42: 17: 94 minutes. Kenya’Heristone Wenyani is the one who finished first. Initially, Amit was the one with a lead but later on, he was overtaken by Heristone in the last laps of the race.

Whereas the bronze medal was bagged by Spain’s McGrath, he completed the 10 km long race in 42: 26: 11 minutes. The time taken by both Kenya and Spain’s athletes was their personal best.

Amit is getting training from Chandan Singh. His coach has always been a fatherly figure in Khatri’s life. Also, Chandan Singh in a recent interview stated that the government of India must include his student in the Target Olympics Podium Scheme.

Singh wants his student to shine at the 2024 Olympics that is the Paris Olympics. According to Chandan Singh, Amit’s family cannot aid his training because of financial difficulties. If he gets sponsorships from the government then definitely Amit has great potential to make the nation proud.

His coach hails from Uttarakhand and presently he is the one who is taking care of Amit’s food and accommodation expenses. Singh said that he is aware of Amit’s potential that’s why he has started preparing him for the 20 km format. But this preparation can only be carried out successfully if they get support from the government.

Amit Khatri’s Family

Amit’s father is employed with the Indian Army whereas his mother is a homemaker. Amit’s family is not financially sound and is unable to help him with his training and diet because his father is a non-rank officer.
