Mari Osaka retirement
At the age of 25, Mari had already given up playing sports. According to People, she announced her choice in a post on Instagram in March 2021, stating that her career had been a “journey [she] didn’t enjoy.”

Mari Osaka and Naomi Osaka
Mari is still capable of competing with Naomi even though she has retired. It seems that Naomi’s older sister regularly thwarted her in games when they were younger. In a March 2019 interview with The New York Times, Naomi stated:
Up until I was 15 she was 6-0-ing me, ridiculous.”
Naomi claims that she and Mari developed a close friendship both on and off the tennis court while practising together throughout Naomi’s childhood. After the 2018 U.S. Open, Naomi went on a trip and thought back on how much she missed her older sister.
Mari Osaka’s career after retirement from tennis
Since her retirement, she has concentrated on her art and fashion design, working with her sister Naomi to co-create the look for the Met Gala in the fall of 2021. Among Osaka’s earlier artistic endeavours are the specially made COVID masks she made for UNICEF and the cover illustration for GQ Japan’s June 2020 issue that features her sister.
