Brief bio and career
Dasun Shanaka was born on September 9, 1991 in Negombo, Sri Lanka and is currently 31 years old. He is currently married to his wife, Chewanthi Perera. The pair got married in 2020 in a small ceremony.
After starting his career in domestic cricket, Shanaka received his first T20I call-up on August 1, 2015. The 31-year-old soon gained prominence after a T20I match against India where he picked three decisive wickets besides playing some handy cameos with the bat. Following this, Shanaka also featured in the 2016 T20 World Cup.
Shanaka’s most memorable performance was back in 2019 when he was selected as the skipper for the Sri Lankan side. During that year, most of the senior Sri Lankan players pulled out of the Pakistan series due to security concerns. However, Shanaka chose to play and led his side to their first-ever series victory including a clean sweep on Pakistani soil.
Dasun Shanaka has since led the team consistently with his performances. Shanaka currently plays for the Dambulla Aura in the Lanka Premier League. As of now, he has not signed for any Indian Premier League side.
