The money for the College Football Playoff is split each year based on a formula that has been set up and can be changed each year, know if the Georgia Bulldogs get anything in prize money for winning the college football national championship
Be aware that, with the exception of Independents, funds are given directly to conferences. Each conference has its own rules for giving money to each of its member institutions.
For example, some conferences give each participant the same amount, while others give each team a bonus for taking part. These numbers do not include payouts from individual bowls that have direct contracts with conferences.
How much did Georgia Bulldogs get in prize money for winning the NCAA college football national championship 2023
While the Bulldogs got no prize money for winning the final, the College Football Playoff gives each conference $6 million for each team that makes it to a semifinal game and $4 million for each team that plays in a bowl game that is not part of the playoff. There is no extra pay for the National Championship Game. Instead, extra costs are paid for.
What happens to the money from the College Football Playoff?
The College Football Playoff says that the following estimates of how CFP revenue will be split are based on preliminary calculations for the 2022–23 season and are only rough estimates of how revenue from each component might be split:
When a school’s football team meets the NCAA’s APR to play in a postseason football game, each school in that conference will get $300,000. When its football team meets that standard, each independent school will also get $300,000.
If a team from a conference makes it to the semifinals, the conference will get $6 million. No extra money will be given to conferences whose teams make it to the national championship game. Under the deal, a conference will get $4 million for each team that plays in a bowl that is not a playoff bowl.
Each conference whose team plays in a playoff semifinal, the Cotton, Fiesta, or Peach Bowl, or the national championship game will get $2.74 million to pay for each game. This is more than the $2.63 million they had in 2021-22.
Also, some Football Championship Subdivision conferences will get a total of $2.96 million for all of them. (This is more than the $2.85 million they had in 2021-22.)
Actual payouts for the College Football Playoff in 2021 and 2022
The following distributions were made in the spring of 2022 based on calculations from the 2021-22 season:
A base amount was given to each of the 10 conferences. For the conferences whose champions have contracts to play in the Orange, Rose, or Sugar bowls. The base plus the full academic performance pool came to about $74 million for each conference.
The five conferences whose champions don’t have contracts to play in the Orange, Rose, or Sugar bowls received a total of about $95 million (full academic pool plus base). The conferences decide how to give out these funds. By meeting the APR standard, Notre Dame got a payment of $3.55 million. The other three independents split $1.88 million.
