Team USA vs Team Italy result, score, winner

Team USA defeated Team Italy 3-0 in the United Cup final to claim the title. The United States prevailed in Sydney thanks to victories from Jessica Pegula, Frances Tiafoe, and Taylor Fritz in their individual matches.

As overwhelming favourites to win the United Cup, the Americans put up impressive performances to defeat the Czech Republic 4-1 and Germany 5-0 and finish first in their group.

After defeating Great Britain 4-1, they secured a spot in the semifinals. To guarantee a spot in the final against Italy, they thrashed Poland 5-0 in the match.

Jessica Pegula and Martina Trevisan, the top female players from each nation, squared off in the opening match of the championship. The first set was closely contested, and the players traded a few breaks when the scores were 4-4. After holding her serve, Pegula broke Trevisan to win the first set 6-4. The World No. 3 easily won the second set, cruising to a 5-0 advantage. The second set was eventually won by Pegula 6-2, giving Team USA a 1-0 lead. Trevisan displayed some resistance by winning the following two games, but Pegula was unfazed.

After that, Frances Tiafoe faced Lorenzo Musetti. Before Musetti’s retirement due to a shoulder injury, which allowed Tiafoe to win the opening set 6-2 and give Team USA a 2-0 lead, Tiafoe appeared to be winning.

The third and most anticipated match of the championship was when Taylor Fritz and Matteo Berrettini squared off. Both players excelled in their individual service games, and tiebreaks were used to determine the two sets. Team USA won the United Cup after Fritz defeated Berrettini 7-6(4), 7-6(6).
