Who was Stephen Soules?
Stephen Soules is the notorious murderer. He has been in the news because his crime was recently featured in the new web series “Death in the Dorms.”
He is a native of Bowling Green, Kentucky. He is currently 40 years old. Family is very important to Soules, according to his aunt, Roxanna Smith and he lived in Scottsville at the time of his arrest with his father, mother and parents.
In 2003, when he was 20 years old, he raped and murdered West Kentucky University freshman Katie Autry. For those who don’t know, on May 3, 2003, Katie Autry attended a party (which Stephen also attended) at the Pi Kappa Alpha (Pike) fraternity home on Chestnut Street. However, she did not anticipate that it would be her last party.
Firefighters were called to the campus dorms of West Kentucky University on May 4 in response to a “suspicious” fire. Two firefighters held Katie’s legs and arms while pulling her burned body from the burning room where the fire started.
She was then immediately transported by air to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where she was reportedly determined to have third- and fourth-degree burns. After putting up a struggle for three days, Autry passed away from her wounds on May 7.
Police apprehended Stephen Soules and Lucus Goodrum in relation to the murder. The fraternity party was attended by both, yet neither was a WKU student.
The BG Daily News reported on March 23, 2004, that Soules had confessed guilt to seven of nine offenses, including first-degree robbery, murder, and complicity in an arson.
Where is Stephen Soules now?
He was eventually convicted after entering a guilty plea to six consecutive life sentences without the possibility of release, along with an additional 20 years. He was spared the death penalty following his conviction because of the plea agreement.
