Who was Katie Autry?
Katie Autry was a normal US citizen. She has been in the news because her brutal death has been featured in the sixth episode of ABC News Studios’ “Death in the Dorms.”
Her real name was Mellisa Autry. However, people fondly called her Katie. She was born on June 10, 1984, in Kentucky.
She did her schooling at Hancock County High School. At the time of her death, she was completing her freshman year at West Kentucky University.
She died on May 7, 2003. She was just 19 years old when she died.
How did she die?
Katie Autry went to a fraternity party on May 3, 2003, with friends, and she got back to her room early that night. However, when the smoke alarm in her room rang at around 4 a.m., authorities showed up and discovered her badly injured body.
According to The Sun, Katie endured third- and fourth-degree burns. She passed tragically three days later at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
In connection with the murder, police detained Stephen Soules, 20, and Lucus Goodrum, 21, both of Bowling Green, Kentucky. While both had attended the fraternity party, neither was a WKU student. Former inmate says Goodrum admitted to raping and beating 18-year-old Western Kentucky University freshman Katie Autry but she was acquitted of the murder.
On March 23, 2004, the BG Daily News reported that Soules had admitted guilt to seven of nine crimes, including murder, first-degree robbery, and involvement in arson.
