In a different match, three-time World Champion Van Gerwen defeated Dobey in straight sets to go to the semi-finals. Within 33 minutes of play, the Dutchman sped to a devastating 5-0 triumph thanks to his impressive average of 102. In the opening match of the day on Sunday, Van den Bergh advanced to the semifinals for the first time in his career by defeating Clayton 5-3 after a long endurance match.

German pioneer Clemens will face off against fourth seed Smith in the semi-finals on a big Monday night for a spot in Tuesday’s championship match. The next opponent in Van Gerwen’s quest for a fourth World Championship victory will be Van den Bergh, who wants to become the first player from Belgium to win the prestigious Sid Waddell Trophy.
