Former Pointer Sisters member Anita Pointer has passed away at the age of 74, know about her daughter Jada Rashawn Pointer and her cause of death
The singer passed away at her Beverley Hills, California, home surrounded by her loved ones.
One of four sisters, Anita Pointer was the second oldest. She and her siblings became famous in the 1970s and 1980s thanks to the success of songs like “Jump (For My Love),” “Fire,” and “I’m So Excited.”

Jada Pointer, the only child of Anita Pointer, died tragically young at the age of 37 from cancer in 2003. Roxie McKain Pointer was raised by Anita, who is Roxie’s grandmother. Family members expressed their happiness that she was “at peace” and with her daughter Jada and sisters June and Bonnie.
In 2003, Anita, a divorcee who had been married multiple times, tragically lost her only child, Jada Rashawn Pointer. Rashawn Pointer, who was 37 years old when she died, suffered from pancreatic cancer. Anita took custody of her granddaughter Roxie after Jada passed away.
Anita Harper, when only 17, wed David Harper in December 1965. Rashawn Pointer was born to the couple in 1966, the same year they split up. A song called “Jada,” written by the Pointer Sisters and featured on their 1973 self-titled first album, was inspired by Rashawn Pointer.
Family members saddened by the news
The family of Anita issued a statement in which they said, “While we are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her daughter, Jada and her sisters June & Bonnie and at peace. Heaven is a more loving beautiful place with Anita there. She was the one that kept all of us close and together for so long. Her love of our family will live on in each of us.”
Bonnie Pointer, Anita’s sister and the group’s co-founder in the late ’60s, passed away in 2020, and Anita’s other sister, June, passed away in 2006. Bonnie and June were the original Pointer Sisters, but Anita soon joined the group. In 1972, their sister Ruth joined in on vocals, making the group a foursome for the first time.
Rise and fall of Pointer Sisters
After releasing their first album in 1973, the Pointer Sisters became famous for their unique blend of funk, soul, and R&B. The group’s 1975 single “Fairytale” was recognised with a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance.
After Bonnie Pointer decided to pursue a solo career in 1979, the remaining Pointer Sisters nearly disbanded. But the surviving sisters stuck together and found greater success with a more contemporary sound. With the 1980s came even more success, with songs like “Automatic” and “He’s So Shy” topping the charts.
The band’s first Grammy was for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group for the song “Fairytale,” which also included the songs “He’s So Shy” and “I’m So Excited.” With the release of 1983’s ‘Break Out,’ the group achieved multi-platinum success and won two more Grammy Awards. Due to health concerns, Anita had to cancel her 2021 appearance on the American edition of “The Masked Singer” with her sister Ruth.
