However, a fresh update on the murder came to light recently that on Thursday morning, her husband Prakash Kumar was taken into custody by the Howrah Police.
The arrest was made after her family members filed a complaint against her spouse, stating that he had threatened and harassed her in the past, and he was subsequently jailed.

Prakash Kumar is an Indian movie director and producer. He has been in the news because he has been recently arrested in relation to her wife’s murder.
He is a resident of Jharkhand. He married multiple times. He is married to actress Riya Kumari who died recently. They also have a daughter who is currently 2 years old.
He has so far produced a number of commercials and short films. He runs a mining company as well.
Why Was He Arrested Lately?
Prakash Kumar claims that when he parked his vehicle on National Highway-16 in the Howrah area early in the morning to use the restroom, three individuals assaulted him and attempted to steal his possessions.
Riya then resisted the robbery attempt, which is when the thieves allegedly opened fire at her and fled, according to the police. After she was shot, her husband drove a few kilometers and, with the assistance of locals, transported her to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
However, on Riya’s family members’ assertions, police arrested Prakash Kumar and alleged that he plotted her murder because he thought that Riya had an affair.
Prior to this, Riya’s family members filed a complaint against him, his ex-wife, and his siblings. The family members said that he had previously threatened and harassed her. They added that Riya made more money than her spouse.
To conduct a forensic investigation, Prakash’s automobile has been confiscated.
