Skills and Qualities

- Make effective use of approved online resources to improve performance and interaction with key game personnel.
- Ability to effectively explain Official Scoring Rules and scoring decisions to club officials and others, if needed, using the press box microphone.
- Use sound judgement when making decisions in the relevant plays.
- keeping detailed records of game totals for each player and team and recording a scorecard.
- Ability to take constructive criticism and instruction well, as well as the patience to deal with criticism of one’s performance from many sources (i.e. clubs, players, media).
- a willingness to work together with MLB coworkers, other official scorers, team officials, and others.
- The Official Scorer, who may be the most noticeable MLB representative at many games, must act with sufficient respect.
- Experience in professional or amateur baseball official scoring is definitely recommended but not necessary.
