Brief Bio and Early Life
Phoebe Litchfield was born on 18 April 2003 in Orange, Australia, where she grew up and spent her early years. Litchfield was just 16-years-old when she joined the Breakers. She was still in school and her dad Andrew Litchfield, was responsible for coaching her.
Phoebe shared how she couldn’t come down to Sydney to train because she wanted to stay at home and school. As such, her dad served as her cricket coach back in Orange and has done so for ages since. She shared that
He’s a great coach.
However, she also revealed about their complicated relationship, and how she often did not listen to her dad. She revealed:
It was weird because, you know, he’s my dad, and I didn’t listen to him at times. But we’ve developed a really good relationship professionally. He’s also a loving father.
University And Cricket
Now that Phoebe has moved to Sydney, she is currently balancing her studies at Sydney’s University of Technology, and playing cricket at the professional level. Sydney is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Media and Communications degree.
She plays for the NSW Breakers in the Women’s National Cricket League and for the Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash.
Phoebe revealed how she enjoys the cricket over uni, by saying:
A lot of the pressure from uni is negative because it’s about getting assessments done. But I love pressure and challenges in cricket. I thrive off it.
“One Of The Most Talented Young Players”
Veteran star Alyssa Healy, who is apparently a fan of Healy shared her views on the young cricketer. She stated:
Litchfield is undoubtedly one of the most talented young players in the competition at the moment and a really exciting one to watch in the WBBL in particular. Without putting too much pressure on her, I’m really excited to see the career that she can have if she wants it. She wants to be better every day.
Ideal Environment
Litchfield also shared how growing up in the country gave her the perfect environment she needed to succeed in cricket. She shared how the opportunities that she had in Orange were laid out perfectly for her.
Litchfield revealed that she was exposed to men’s cricket at such a young age, which helped her improve greatly. She also revealed how they had a cricket net in the backyard, which gave her space to keep practicing with her Dad.
And that is apparently something that Litchfield still loves doing when she comes back in her home town. Litchfield shares how she enjoys having fun with her Dad as a coach. She shared how something that she misses after coming to Sydney is making those hits with her Dad.
Her Father’s Impact
Despite her dad’s tough love in her early years, her father’s guidance strongly still lives on as she works towards playing for Australia.
Litchfield shared some of her dad’s few sayings, saying.
‘If you’re going on the right track, don’t stand still or you’ll get run over’. As in, if you’re going well, don’t think you can settle. Keep trying to find ways to improve every day.
