Despite the gravity of the situation, just one person—Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi—was found responsible for carrying out a horrible terrorist act. But now, with the arrest of another suspect, it looks like the case is now going to take some momentum in present-day geopolitics.
As a result of this, Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi has become a hot topic of discussion with many people trying to find out more about him and his involvement in the bombing. So, let’s find out everything about him:
Who Is Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi?
Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi is a Libyan national. He has been in the news because he was recently arrested by the US for his involvement in the Lockerbie bombings.
According to the Justice Department, he served as a long-time agent for Libyan intelligence, including work as a specialist in making explosive devices from around 1973 until 2011.
He was previously imprisoned in Libya for his participation in an attack on a Berlin bar in 1986.
His Involvement In Lockerbie Bombings
Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Mari was instructed by a Libyan intelligence officer to go to Malta in the winter of 1988 with a bomb concealed in a suitcase that would later blow on Pan Am Flight 103, killing 270 people in total.
According to the Justice Department, he took the device to the airport, set a timer for it to detonate on the plane the next day, and passed it off to a co-conspirator who put it on a conveyer belt headed for the aircraft.
A breakthrough in the case in 2017 brought detectives to Mas’ud, who during an interview with Libyan law enforcement after the Col. Moammar Gadhafi regime’s fall acknowledged manufacturing the bomb used in the Pan Am attack.
