On his return to hometown, Lopez was optimistic of resounding victory ahead of his WBC title chase in 2023, however, Sandor Martin managed to rattle the American boxer before losing via split decision. Following his win, Teofimo Lopez was far from satisfied, as his performance raised doubts about his title chances in 140-pound division.

As per sources, Teofimo Lopez will bag confirmed purse of $1,500,000 along with lion-share of yet-to-be announced PPV revenue and sponsorship rewards. Meanwhile, his Spanish challenger will earn guaranteed purse of $500,000.
Teofimo Lopez believed that a victory this weekend would pave the way for him to pursue a second championship in 2023, but Sandor Martin was the one to give him a dose of reality. Despite landing on the canvas in the middle of the fight, Teofimo Lopez was still able to win by split decision, but the prospect of going up against Regis Prograis, Josh Taylor, Jack Catterall, Jose Zepeda, or Jose Carlos Ramirez presents a very challenging situation.

Teofimo Lopez vs Sandor Martin Match Events & Post-match Reactions
During the main-event, Teofimo had established his rhythm before the end of the first round, but Sandor wasn’t going to let him win lightly, as he started to push Teofimo back with quick counterpunches. Teofimo displayed lack of confidence after hitting the ground and attempted to deflect the punishment by punching his opponent in the middle of the frame. Sandor, meanwhile, significantly boosted his defense by covering his body with his gloves.
Martin seemed to have a broken nose from the first round, and by the fourth, there was a lot of blood, but his southpaw movement kept him out of severe danger. In addition, Martin benefited from Lopez continuing to follow him around the ring, giving him the opportunity to leave to his right whenever he was on the ropes. The only combatant to use combinations was Lopez, who had success in the second part of the bout with his straight right to the body of Martin. As Martin maneuvered and Lopez stalked in round 9, the spectators started to jeer the contest because it was still far from being decided.
During his post-match interview, Lopez revealed that his next opponent can be anyone amongst Josh Taylor, Regis Prograis, & George Kambosos, which will all lead to different boxing opportunity for Lopez.
