Since his expected comeback to Manchester United didn’t go as planned, he has severed relations with the team where he first established himself and created his reputation. He was assigned to the substitutes dugout during the World Cup, suggesting that the coaching mistakes that frequently had him sitting on the bench at Manchester United followed him there as well, at Portugal.

Ronaldo, who is 37 years old, knew the 2022 World Cup would probably be his last, so he was naturally disappointed when Portugal lost the quarterfinal game on Saturday.

As the only other three African countries to qualify for the tournament’s quarterfinals, Cameroon (1990), Senegal (2002), and Ghana (2010), Youssef En-game-winning Nesyri’s goal for the Moroccan team made history for his nation. Portugal, however, was expelled from that level of the competition for the first time in their history after moving on from their previous two quarterfinal appearances to the semis (1966 and 2006). Without acknowledging or congratulating any of the Moroccan players, Ronaldo exited the field in an impolite manner. The player was also seen in tears while he was heading towards the locker room and the picture and videos of him crying has been going viral on internet.

The unsportsmanlike exit was not well received by the crowd, and the forward has been attacked on Twitter.
