Terence Crawford vs David Avanesyan Match Events & Post-match Reactions
Despite being hit with a hard right in the first round and a few lefts in Round 2, Crawford, who hadn’t fought since stopping Shawn Porter in the 10th round last November, maintained his composure and gradually warmed up by using lateral movement behind a probing jab and calmly landing well-placed body shots. Throughout majority of Round-3 & Round-4, Avanesyan dominated the easy-going Crawford while remaining competitive, but he lacked Crawford’s punch fluidity and inventiveness. Near the end of Round 4, Crawford increased his aggression, and he maintained his composure in Round 5, as he started to combine uppercuts with his usual body attacks.
Then, as the sixth round got underway, Crawford reached a level that demonstrated why he’s perhaps the sport’s best pound-for-pound fighter. In the sixth round, Crawford regularly connected with powerful left-handed uppercuts before spectacularly knocking Avanesyan out in a late push for 2022 Knockout of the Year with a short left uppercut and right hook combo. During his post-match interview, Crawford expressed his desire to fight against Erol Spence in a clash, which will decide undisputed champion of welterweight division.
