During a Lanka Premier League match, Chamika Karunaratne took a catch and was struck in the face with the video of him losing his teeth viral

Karunaratne mysteriously lost four of his teeth.

In a bizarre event, Kandy Falcons and Galle Gladiators all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne of Sri Lanka lost his teeth while attempting to make a catch on Wednesday during a Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2022 encounter.

The event occurred after Nuwanido Fernando blasted a fuller delivery outside off over covers in the fourth over of the first innings. He was unable to determine the distance, and Karunaratne was struck in the face by the falling ball as he had to track back from the cover region.

When the ball was smacked in the face as it came down, several teeth were knocked out as Karunaratne rushed back from cover to take an over-the-shoulder catch. Following the contact, a tooth can be seen in the replays tumbling out of Karunaratne’s mouth. The Sri Lankan all-rounder immediately began bleeding, necessitating an urgent hospital visit.

Later on, the player underwent surgery.

Immediately after, Karunaratne was driven to the hospital, where he underwent surgery. He is believed to have suffered cuts and bruises to his bottom lip and gums in addition to losing four teeth in his lower frontal jaw.

The Falcons came victorious against the Gladiators.

Speaking about the game, the Falcons won easily, chasing down the 122 total set by the Gladiators in just 15 overs with the loss of just five wickets. After winning the toss, the Gladians put 121/8 on the board in 20 overs. For the Falcons, Kamindu Mendis (44) scored the most runs. After Pathum Nissanka and Andre Fletcher got the Falcons’ pursuit off to a terrific start, he hit four boundaries and two sixes. Pathum Nissanka used three boundaries and a six to score 22 runs off 21 balls. Fletcher, on the other hand, scored 20 runs, including three boundaries and a six, off just 14 balls.

For the Falcons, Carlos Brathwaite shined with the ball, taking four wickets in four overs while only allowing 14 runs to be scored. In order to help the Kandy Falcons, he also bowled a maiden over. The “Man of the Match” award went to Brathwaite.
