The well-known American tennis coach and mentor, who had been dealing with health concerns in recent years, reportedly passed away just two weeks after refuting online reports of his death. He founded the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, currently known as the IMG Academy, in Florida after being born to Italian immigrants in Pelham, New York. The facility eventually developed into the leading tennis academy in the country for aspiring professionals.

He had helped many Tennis stars in making their illustrious career.

Bollettieri, who has worked with players like Andre Agassi, Maria Sharapova, Serena and Venus Williams, Jim Courier, Monica Seles, Tommy Haas, Martina Hingis, and Anna Kournikova, is credited with guiding at least 10 prodigies to top-seed status, according to The Sun.

Bollettieri was reportedly in excellent shape well into his 80s and reported to the gym each morning at 5 am. He wrote several tennis books and even worked as a TV analyst, despite the fact that his personal life was somewhat turbulent. The last marriage, to Cindi Eaton in April 2004, was the eighth for the coaching icon. For his contributions to the game, he was honoured with induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in July 2014.

Early Life

After earning his philosophy degree in 1953, Bollettieri joined the US Army. At the University of Miami, he continued to study law but left in 1956 to become a tennis coach at the elite Wayland Academy. Brian Gottfried and Sheryl Smith were two of his first pupils. He subsequently rose to the position of director of tennis operations at the Rockefeller family’s Dorado Beach Hotel in Puerto Rico in the early 1970s, according to Tennis World USA.

James, Danielle, Angelique, Nicole, and Alexandra were children of the tennis coach and he also had two adopted sons Giovanni and Giacomo making seven children in all.

Bollettieri has been married seven times: Phyllis Johnson (1954–1959), Nancy Chaney (1959–1964), Jeri Sylvester (1965–1977), Diane Day (1979–1979), Elizabeth Flower (2002–2003), Bobbie Lachiusa (2003–2004), Cindi Eaton married 2004 to date.

He died of old age related ailments and after suffering from a string of prolonged health issues with his net worth at $5 million.
