Who Is Jim Kolbe?
In Evanston, Illinois, on June 28, 1942, James Thomas Kolbe was born. When he was five years old, his family relocated to Santa Cruz, where he grew up. In 1960, he graduated from the United States Capitol Page School after completing his undergraduate education at Northwestern University in Arizona. There, he belonged to the Acacia fraternity. He has experience in the American Navy.
Jim Kolbe’s Political Journey
Kolbe won the Arizona Senate election in 1976 against his Democratic opponent. He served in that body for three terms. Kolbe left his job in 1982 to run for the Arizona 5th Congressional District. Despite losing by 1% to Jim McNulty of the Democratic Party that term, he won the following one in 1984. Up until 2014, he was the sole Republican to represent the Arizona-Mexico border. Serving a total of 11 terms in that post, he represented that body from 1985 until 2003. Kolbe declared in 2005 that he would not run for a 12th term in office in 2006.

Gay rights groups attempted to reveal Kolbe after he supported the Defence of Marriage Act. He revealed that he was gay in August 1996. He was the second out gay Republican to hold office in Congress and the first openly homosexual speaker at the Republican National Convention in 2000.
Kolbe supported Democratic candidate Joe Biden for president in 2020 after he defected from the Republican Party in 2018.
From 1977 through 1992, Kolbe was married to Sarah Dinham, a professor at the University of Arizona. In 2013, he got hitched to Hector Alfonso. His net worth stoof at $5 million.
