After emerging victorious in their respective semi-final ties of FIH Hockey Men’s Nations Cup, Ireland and South Africa are set to face-off on Sunday with place at 2023-24 FIH Pro League at stake. 2022 Men’s FIH Nations Cup Results Today, Final Schedule, Date, Time, Venue, & Medal Round Matches
Ireland and the hosts South Africa secured their places in the inaugural FIH Hockey Men’s Nations Cup final on Saturday after playing high caliber hockey in their respective semi-final matches and displaying flashes of brilliance. Benjamin Walker gave Ireland the advantage after the score was tied at half-time, and Jeremy Duncan later scored twice in the Malaysian defense’s open space to keep Ireland’s tournament record spotless with four victories out of four.
Tevin Kok, who has been South Africa’s finest attacking outlet thus far, gave the hosts the lead in the second semifinal, but Jonghyun Jang tied the score for Korea on their third penalty corner, giving him his sixth goal of the competition. Both teams were unable to score winning goal, hence the teams advanced to the first shootout of the competition. For the shoot-out, South Africa changed their goalkeeper, and Anton van Loggerenberg proved that the switch was warranted by stopping three of the five shots Korea attempted at the penalty shoot-out, including Jonghyun Jang’s game-winning attempt.
Earlier in the day, France outplayed Canada 7-1 with an offensive masterclass led by Blaise Rogeau’s first hat-trick of the competition and captain Victor Charlet’s two goals, while Japan defeated Pakistan in a closely contested match. Tomorrow’s playoff for seventh place will now feature Pakistan and Canada, with France and Japan competing for fifth.
