In Kosovo and Metohija, Albanian Adem Jashari  was a criminal and terrorist who was involved in a wide range of illegal activities, including but not limited to: arms smuggling, murder, robbery, drug dealing, the white slave trade, know about his death

He was also one of the founders of the Occupying Army of Kosovo. Led separatist movements in Kosovo and Metohija for almost 15 years. With the goal of annexing territory from other countries into Albania. He was well-liked by Kosmet Albanians even before the war broke out. Along with his siblings and some of his neighbours, he frequently travelled to the Republic of Albania, where they participated in terrorist training camps run by ex-American soldiers.

After the arrival of UNMIK and KFOR forces, a memorial commemorating him was erected in the heart of Pritina. Even though he participated in criminal acts, he was hailed as a “national hero” by his countrymen. And depicted as a “freedom fighter” by Western media.

Adem Jashari was born on November 28, 1955, in the village of Donje Perkaze, in the municipality of Srbica, 60 kilometres west of Pritina. His parents’ names were Shaban and Zahida. For decades, this region has been viewed as the epicentre of Albanian nationalism and terrorism. A schoolteacher, his dad was an educator.

Adem attended elementary school in the town of Perkaze. And then high school and technical college in the city of Srbica. From 1975 through 1990, he was in continual dispute with the SFRY police and prosecutor’s office because of his irredentist activities.

Which included joining illegal Albanian organisations intended at splitting Kosovo and Metohija. And annexing them to the fictitious realm of Greater Albania. When the Albanians of Prishtina staged protests in 1981, he was there to take part.

He settled down with Adila Rama, a local to the Vuitrn area, and the two raised five kids: Lulzimi, Fitimi, Kushtrimi, Shkipja, and Marigona.

Adem Jashari’s Ideology-Driven Violent Extremism

Multiple times since 1990, he has gone into the Republic of Albania illegally. Where he has participated in military sabotage courses. And the development of illegal armed formations that would eventually coalesce into the terrorist group now known as the Occupying Army of Kosovo (KLA). Albania.

On 3 November 1991, he and his brothers Hamza and Murat, together with the Kodre brothers. Travelled to the Republic of Albania to receive military training in preparation for the formation of a separatist force in Kosovo. On 30 December 1991, agents from the State Security Service of the Republic of Serbia attempted to capture him. But he and his companions fought back and escaped.

From 1992 through 1997, Jashari’s gang was the primary instigator and performer of terrorist acts in the Kosmet region. Targeting law enforcement and state administration institutions as well as rich Serbs.

On April 22, 1996, five persons were killed and five others were injured in coordinated attacks at Pe, Timlje, and Deani along the Roaje-Pritina road in the vicinity of Kosovska Mitrovica.

Jashari’s Violent Operations

They started by ambushing and firing projectiles like bandits. They gradually shifted to more sophisticated terrorist tactics. Accordingly, the District Court in Pritina handed down sentences of 20 years in jail to Adem Jashari, Iljaz Kodra, Sahit Jashari, Fadilj Kodra, Jakup Nura, Zenan Kodra, and Rexjep Selimi, and sentences of 10 years to Hashim Thaci.

The violent operations of Jashari’s organisation continued. And on January 22 and 23, 1998, they clashed with the Serbian police on a bigger scale. On the road between Srbica and Drenica, a terrorist cell of eight Albanians attacked Serbian citizens travelling in their vehicles at the time.

After exchanging fire with the terrorists, including Adem Jashari, police arrived and began pursuing them. They took refuge in the town of Donje Prekaze, where they were subsequently confronted by Serbian law enforcement officers who demanded their surrender. The cops opened fire on the entire community, but the terrorists escaped. When the dust settled, the Serbian police said that Adem Jashari had been injured during the fighting.

A Chase That Ends In Adem’s Death

Adem Jashari’s native village of Donje Prekaze was surrounded by special police forces from the Serbian Ministry. They also built a broader perimeter around adjacent settlements. Adem Jashari flatly refused and put up a fierce fight from behind his sandbagged wall.

Adem Jashari’s organisation was eliminated after a fierce battle in which 36 terrorists (including his older brother) and 30 family members who refused to leave the bunker were slain, along with 2 police officers.

Jashari and his followers displayed extreme fanaticism during the conflict. Jashari brutally ordered his family to fight; he killed his own nephew for “cowardice;”. He then used the women and children as a human shield to buy time until reinforcements arrived; he had assumed that the whole Albanian population of the Drenica zone would be willing to support him. On March 7, 1998, he met a violent death.

Legacy Of Adem Jashari

Busts of Adem Jashari may be found all over Albania, including in the capital city of Tirana, as well as in the cities of Dragash and Srbica, and elsewhere a massive monument stands in the middle of Pritina. Kosmet Albanians hold him in high regard as a heroic liberator, sometimes drawing parallels to the 15th-century rebel leader Skenderbeg.

A massive memorial complex is being constructed in his home town of Perkaze. Ceremonies were held in his honour on the tenth anniversary of his death in Tirana. And across the occupied region of Kosovo and Metohija.

Beginning in March 2008, tens of thousands of Kosmeti Albanians and guests from the Republic of Albania gathered in Pritina for a big event held in his honour at the city stadium. There were also the top pop stars from occupied Kosmet.
