At the BetVictor Scottish Open in Edinburgh, Scotland’s Fraser Patrick shocked the world by defeating defending champion Luca Brecel via score of 4-3 to end Brecel’s hopes of retaining the Stephen Hendry Trophy. This match’s first two frames were won by Patrick, which earned him quick 2-0 lead. However, the match was turned around as Brecel raced to 3-2 lead with breaks of 49, 72, & 83. Patrick held his nerve to force decider after winning fifth frame with 93-break. To secure his spot in the next round, Patrick subsequently prevailed following intense 41-minute final frame.
John Higgins of Glasgow, who has won 31 ranking events, qualified for the round of 64 with 4-2 victory over Anthony Hamilton. Meanwhile, world no.3 Judd Trump dispatched Sanderson Lam with ease by score of 4-0, and Mitchell Mann will be Trump’s opponent in second-round. Mark Allen, a former Scottish Open champion, defeated Andy Lee 4-1 to qualify for next round, while Mark Williams defeated Andres Petrov 4-1.
With his 4-1 victory over Mark Davis, Neil Robertson advanced to the next round, while Mark Selby achieved the same feat thanks to his 4-2 victory over Aaron Hill. Elsewhere. Shaun Murphy defeated Lei Peifan by score of 4-0 with breaks of breaks of 100, 104, & 107.
