Katarina Boskovic: “Run Like Kat” Pays Tribute To Longmeadow Teen Who Died In Deadly Crash
As one of the race winners, Shea Hamel, a close friend of Boskovic, emerged as a winner. She was badly hurt in the same accident. When talking about her runs with her friend Katarina, Hamel said, “At the conclusion of the race, she would always kick. This was because she realized it was when it mattered most; she constantly encouraged me to kick at the finish of the race.”
Run Like Kat
At 10 a.m., a 5K/1-mile walk was held, and entry fees were $30. The race’s website lists 4Run3, NRG Real Estate, and Continuum Performance Center as lead organisers. Ahead of the run, the reports spoke with Jill Murphy, a math instructor at Longmeadow High School and co-owner of 4Run3, about the 5K race.
“It would be a fantastic opportunity to do a 5K,” Murphy told the source. “We decided that we wanted to do something for her over Thanksgiving. As it would be when all of her classmates were back from school.” They intended to start the memorial fund to “make it more formal” and “have some of it for her family and some of it for scholarships.”
A 5K “Run Like Kat” competition honored Boskovic’s legacy as a distinguished student-athlete, mentor, and youth track coach, as well as a devoted member of the community. The race attracted more than 650 runners and netted about $18,000 for the Kat Boskovic Memorial Fund. This was initiated by the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts after Kat’s death. On Friday morning, the majority of attendees were dressed in purple and navy blue, Kat’s favourite colours, and there was a light drizzle that matched their tear-filled eyes.
Zacharu Elfamn Charged Against Manslaughter
The 18-year-old Zachary Elfman, has been charged with manslaughter and other offences in connection with the car accident on May 7. The accident killed Boskovic and critically injured Hamel. According to sources, Elfman is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, which set off the sequence of events that resulted in the horrible collision.
